Blackberries are in full bloom right now. The smell is just intoxicating, it greets us when we get home. Although, like every year we just can’t keep up. We pick some and it seems almost overnight the bush is loaded again. This is always the time that we get creative with ways that we can use up these wonderful berries.
In honor of our Classic Movie Night we went ahead and created a cocktail that nodded to the classics.
Look out for our Movie Night Post on the Blog Soon!
Blackberry Smash Iced Tea
3 Cups Fresh Blackberries
3/4 Cup White Granulated Sugar
6 Earl Grey Tea Bags 2 Peppermint Tea Bags
4-6 Mint Sprigs, for garnish
Good Qaulity Whiskey or Bourbon, to taste
COMBINE blackberries and sugar in a large ziplock bag and mash the berries with your hands; allow to sit and macerate.
Take 1 1/2 cups water and pour in a glass carafe with tea bags and allow adequate time to steep. Usually, I allow it to sit in full sun for about 10 hours.
Note: If you do not have time to make sun tea you can boil the water and allow to steep for 3 minutes.
Remove tea bags and combine tea and blackberry mixture. Allow adequate time for the flavors to blend (about 1 hour).
POUR entire mixture through strainer. Cover, Refrigerate until entirely cold, at least 2 hours.
SERVE in a glass, float a shot whiskey or bourbon on top. Add Ice, as needed. Garnish with fresh mint. Enjoy.
